California Advocacy – CIB’s Sacramento-based lobbyists track state legislation affecting community banks and regularly interacts with key legislators to ensure that CIB remains a separate and effective voice for independent bankers. With representation steps away from the state capitol, CIB is able to track and monitor important legislation at bay. Because CIB allows only community banks to be members, our policy is never compromised by catering to mega banks, industrial loan companies, insurance companies or security firms. We have worked against onerous regulations and successfully championed state legislation preventing Wal-Mart from owning a bank.

Federal Advocacy - Closely coordinating with the ICBA in Washington D.C., the CIB formulates positions on important federal legislation. CIB members and staff attend various political fund-raising events held in the state and advocate our political goals. CIB and ICBA are community banking advocates on every important issue, including maintaining the separation of banking and commerce, tax relief, streamlined regulation, bankruptcy reform, deposit insurance reform, agricultural issues, equal access to payment systems, and stopping unfair credit union expansion.

CIBPAC - Your membership and your grassroots involvement help CIB to effectively lobby before Congress, the Administration and regulators.  Your support of CIB’s political action committee (CIBPAC) is essential in ensuring that the California Independent Bankers continues to be a strong advocate and voice for community banking. CIBPAC funds legislators, candidates and issues that promote candidates who understand and support community banking.
